The new Microsoft Office System 2007 was released the same time as Microsoft's Windows Vista Operating System. For system builders and OEMs, this represented an opportunity to upsell one with the other. However Office 2003 continues to remain in use. Besides the new interface offered throughout the suite, the ribbon, redesigned menus, etc., Microsoft has also developed a new open-standards format, called OpenXML, for the majority of the documents created with the suite, especially Word 2007 and Powerpoint 2007. These files are "recognized" as such by Windows XP and Vista itself, but when attempting to read an OpenXML (.docx extension) file in Office 2003, a message is displayed asking the user to download a "compatibity pack". This pack adds the 2007 import filters to Office 2003, but not all features are supported on downlevel clients. The conversion pack can be downloaded ahead of time from Microsoft:
